Treatments

Yoga is one of the best ways to exercise during pregnancy. A gentle, safe way of keeping toned and supple without strain, keeping aches and pains at bay, energy flowing, relaxing the mind and body, preparing for the physical demands of childbirth and motherhood.

We recommend beginning classes following the 14th week of your pregnancy and continuing throughout, once or twice a week in order to gain maximum benefit.

During classes Zena will guide you through an integrated mix of breath work, postures and relaxation. Classes involve holding postures passively & mindfully, encouraging softness, deep internal release and developing flexibility & breath. By bringing both the passive and dynamic postures to our practice we become calm and energised, increasing our healing potential, promoting harmony, and improving overall vitality.

At the end of the class is a 15 minute final relaxation (Yoga Nidra) when you get a chance to really let go and deepen your connection with your baby and mother nature. We look at different ways you can rest using cushions and bolsters, (that will really help if you are finding it hard to sleep at night) – all mums to be love this, for some it’s the only chance they get to really relax their body and mind!

Benefits of pregnancy yoga: · Helps keep the body supple without strain · Helps boost energy · Can relieve minor aches and pains (e.g. swollen joints, constipation & heartburn) · Can relieve stress and anxiety · Helps relaxation and restful sleep · Improves posture thus improving lower back pain · Strengthens pelvic floor muscles · Promotes better connection with your baby through breathing exercises · Can be used to relieve pain in labour and childbirth

Women in full time employment are entitled to paid time off work to attend yoga classes. We encourage expectant mothers to exercise their right to this time off work. For further details of the legal obligation of employers to pregnancy, please see: http://www.dti.gov.uk/er/individual/03.htm
