Sophia is a qualified Iyengar Yoga teacher and it was her practice and love of yoga that first led her to Thai Yoga Massage (or Traditional Thai Massage).

She trained at the Mudita School of Thai Yoga Massage in London, where she also returned for an advanced course in Rhythm and Rocking techniques in April 2015. She holds an ITEC qualification in Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology, and has a particular interest in body memory and the connection between the emotional and the physical.

Thai Yoga Massage, or Traditional Thai Massage, has roots in ancient Buddhist traditions as well as the Indian traditions of Ayurveda and yoga. It is a holistic therapy that aims to balance the body’s energy system, by working on ten main meridians, or lines, that run throughout the body, known as the Ten Sen.

A treatment is done on a firm futon on the floor, with the client wearing soft, comfortable clothing that allows movement. The practitioner uses his or her thumbs, palms, elbows, and feet to apply a combination of acupressure, gentle twisting, and assisted yoga stretches. The treatment has a meditative quality, and Sophia works with attention and intuition, tailoring each session to suit the individual client.

Sophia Argyris offers Traditional Thai Massage - and is a self-employed practitioner based at Eau de Vie Oxford
